Czech guitarist and composer Stepan Rak is regarded as one of the most creative and innovative figures in the contemporary classic guitar world. Although numerous recordings and published editions of Rak's music have appeared, much of his best music remains unpublished or unavailable. A projected multi-volume edition from Mel Bay Publications, Inc. will alleviate this situation. This first volume contains five concert works from the period 1986-1989, each displaying a unique facet of Rak's compositional output: Elegy (Hommage a Sibelius); The Czech Fairy Tales; Aria de Bohemia; Song for David; and Sonata Mongoliana.
